PM MODI likely to inaugurate "Z_morh"tunnel on 13 january
The Z-Morh Tunnel is a 6.5 km long 2-lane road tunnel between Gagangair and Sonamarg in Ganderbal district of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in India. It is named after the Z-shaped stretch of road that the tunnel has replaced (Z-Morh translates to "Z-turn" in English). The road used before was avalanche-prone and used to get blocked for several months, but the Z-Morh tunnel provides all-weather connectivity to the Sonamarg tourist town. It takes only 15 minutes to travel the 6.5 km long tunnel compared to hours over the zig-zag road up and down the hills.
PM Modi will travel to Gagangeer on January 13, to inaugurate the tunnel. After the opening of this tunnel, a prominent tourist resort Sonmarg will remain open for the entire winter
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be arriving in Kashmir next week to inaugurate Z Morh tunnel which is one of vital infrastructure projects on strategic Srinagar-Ladakh National highway (NH) and the second important tunnel after Zojila tunnel.
After completion of the tunnels there will be all weather road connectivity between Ladakh and the rest of the country.
While the Z Morh tunnel was completed three months ago, the Zojila tunnel will be completed next year.
